Cruise Automation is San Francisco based software company that currently employs 40 people. It was founded in 2013 and is popular for designing the technology that provided autopilot capabilities to the cars. It shifted its focus to driverless cars a few months back.
It is one of the few firms that have a permit for test driving the automated cars on public roads (as announced by company personnel).
General Motors Inc. plans to use this autonomous vehicle technology in their own vehicles and make them up-to-date with the latest technology world. They plan to use this technology to make driverless cars.
Financial terms for this deal were not disclosed. The base of the Cruise Automation would stay in San Francisco but will function as an autonomous unit.
General Motors Inc. seems to be working on a good strategy as they’re not trying to build up a new technology rather investing in already developing ones. Self-driven or automated cars are the next big thing as buyers are focusing more on such features these days along with quality, reliability and durability.
General Motors and Ford are making their presence felt in the Silicon Valley and actively working on getting newer technologies on board to up their game in the driverless cards trend.
